Homemade Taco Bell Chalupas


Prepare the Chalupa Shells:

In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add milk, stirring until a dough forms.
Divide dough into 8 equal pieces. On a lightly floured surface, roll each piece into a thin round.
Fry rounds in hot oil (375°F or 190°C) for 1-2 minutes on each side until puffed and golden. Drain on paper towels.
Cook the Filling:

Brown ground beef in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess grease.
Stir in taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened.
Assemble the Chalupas:

Spoon beef filling onto each chalupa shell. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and taco sauce.
